The European Space Agency (ESA) is the international agency that coordinates the space projects of 22 European countries through five research centers located in Europe; in Italy there is the European Center for Earth Observation (ESRIN, European Space Research Institute) located in Frascati, in the province of Rome. It is a structure made up of a series of buildings for a total of over 17,000 square meters, visited daily by more than 800 employees and visitors, for a total annual consumption of about 500 toe.
What we have done
Studio Santi verified the compliance of the site with respect to the objectives of the 20-20-20 package of the European Union, namely the 20% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the 20% increase in the use of renewable energy and the 20% of primary energy consumption. The path undertaken since 2010 by ESA ESRIN has made it possible to achieve these objectives, suitably adapted – with respect to the original dimension of the 2020 Climate&Energy Package – to the specificities and dimensions of the Frascati research center.
