What we have done

As part of the Pact for the Environment stipulated between the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of the Environment and ENAC and the “ENAC policy for the environmental sustainability of airports”, in the framework of the 2007-2013 POI “Renewable energy and energy saving”, ENAC has commissioned Studio Santi to draw up a national guideline for the design and management of new and existing eco-sustainable airport terminals, with particular emphasis on the energy efficiency aspects of sustainability. The guideline was presented at a special conference in Rome and distributed to operators in the sector. Studio Santi itself used it for the verification of compliance with the VIA requirements on near-zero energy buildings (nZEB) relating to the new terminals of Fiumicino international airport.

Solergy has designed, patented, developed and perfected a new photovoltaic concentrating technology, with very high efficiency junction cells and with simultaneous heat recovery that can be used in cogeneration with the electricity produced. To experiment with this new technology, ENAC allowed its installation at the Pantelleria airport – directly managed by ENAC and with suitable meteorological and energy conditions – and entrusted Studio Santi with the technical-scientific advice and supervision of the initiative, in order to verify the effectiveness of the system both in terms of technology and integration into the airport energy system.
